My parents immigrated to the U.S. in 1971. I was the third of four children born along a migratory path from Tijuana, Mexico to San Francisco, and back south to Los Angeles. My siblings and I were raised within L.A.’s culturally diverse urban sprawl. My parent’s choice to migrate to California means, amongst many other things, we have become part of the melting pot. My work speaks of cultural assimilation, representation, and an attempt to grasp what remains.
I was the first in my family to go to a 4 year University. In 2004 I received a B.A. in Art from California State University, Northridge. After this, I moved to Chicago to work and explore. After one semester, I returned to CSU, Northridge and in 2007 received a M.A. in Ceramics. I left Southern California for Northern California and completed the Master of Fine Arts degree from CSU, Chico. I currently reside in Chico and teach at CSU, Chico and Butte Community College.
